1. Initial consultation
After you complete the design questionnaire, we’ll have a brief (about 15 minutes) phone call to discuss your project and make sure we’ll work well together.
2. Quote and timeline
We’ll discuss your ideas for the cover and I’ll give you a firm quote and timeline for the project.
3. Getting started
After you accept the quote and pay the 50% upfront deposit, I’ll get you on the design schedule and we'll set up another quick (about 30 minutes) phone call to discuss your vision for the cover and walk through finding the perfect stock image(s) to use. At this point, I’ll also need you to send me high-resolution versions of any logos or artwork we’ll be including on the cover.
4. Cover mockups
You’ll receive two rough mockups of your covers by email. Keep in mind that even if your project includes a back cover and spine or I’m also laying out the interior of your book, at first we’ll concentrate on the front cover only. We’ll try out different images and typefaces on your chosen design until we have a cover that thrills you.
5. Fine-tuning your design
Once we’ve finalized the front cover, I’ll create the back cover and spine, and then move on to the interior layout (if applicable). At this point, I’ll also supply you with a 3-D promotional image so you can start marketing your book.
6.Communicating with your printer
I'll contact your printer early in the design process to discuss the technical specifications, and then stay in touch with them throughout the process to ensure that the printing goes smoothly. (print projects only)
7. Finalizing your book cover
I'll go over every detail of your final book cover, back cover and spine design to ensure that the final design is perfect. Then it’s off to press! Once final payment is made, I’ll upload the digital files to your printer.
